Production process of titanium dioxide Titanium dioxide is produced through two main methods: Sulfuric acid method: ilmenite or rutile is treated with sulfuric acid to produce titanium sulfate solution, and then titanium dioxide is obtained through hydrolysis, calcination and other steps. This method is more traditional, but the cost is lower. Chlorination method: ilmenite or rutile is treated by chlorination to generate titanium tetrachloride gas, and then titanium dioxide is obtained through oxidation, hydrolysis and other steps.
