Tert-butanol, also known as 2-methyl-2-propanol, terbutanol, or trimethylmethanol, is an organic compound with the chemical formula C4H10O.It is a colorless, transparent liquid with a distinctive odor and hygroscopicity that is flammable, has a density of 0.775 g/cm³, a melting point between 23 and 26°C, and a boiling point of 84.6°C.12 Tert-butanol becomes liquid in the presence of a small amount of water and is miscible with water and a variety of organic solvents such as alcohols, esters, ethers, aliphatic hydrocarbons, aromatic hydrocarbons and so on.
