Acrylic acid has a melting point of 14°C, a boiling point of 140.9°C and a density of 1.051g/cm³12. Chemical Properties Acrylic acid is chemically active and polymerizes easily when exposed to light or heated. It can be reacted with alcohol to form corresponding esters. Common acrylic esters include methyl acrylate, ethyl acrylate and butyl acrylate. Areas of application Coatings and adhesives: Acrylic acid is an important raw material for the preparation of coatings and adhesives, which can improve the adhesion, corrosion resistance and durability of coatings. Plastics and synthetics: Acrylic acid can be used to make a variety of plastics, elastomers, and floor polishes, and it can be combined with polymers to form "olefin" materials, which are used to make synthetics such as plastics, rubber, and cellulose. Pesticides: Acrylic acid is used in pesticides.
